Do any of the members of this tribe work for Juxtapoz? Just curious... was wondering how people at the magazine feel about the changes.

      I take it you dont't read Jux on a regular basis...?

      The changes I'm referring to are those that took place, what is it, maybe six or so issues ago, the layout, design and general context changes.

        yea Ive been boycotting juxtapoz for a few years.........is it more flashy? more advertising? good or bad? I have noticed tons of adds in there that dont have anythign to do with art. kinda sad.....we need more creative art magazine out there!

          I'm thinking about doing the same thing... any replacement magazines you can suggest?

          Basically, as I see it, it has lost its punk/skateboard edge... does that make sense? I think changes have been made to perhaps keep up with the "tastes" of its aging reader demographic.

            I'd compare it to New American Paintings, but I can't determine the criteria for submissions to be accepted.

              yeah, there are adds, but show me one magazine that doesn't have em. jux features great art/artists, advertises art shows and calls for entries, ect. what more do you want? i love that it's monthly now.

                well they use to have adds that would go hand in hand with the art and art products. now they have a higher clinetel and you have to look at car ads , movies,etc... before you didnt notice as much, but now its more then a third of the mag and its a huge difference compared to older issues that just had a sprinkle of em . it just seems like its becoming more and more of a marketing tool and less about the art. didnt mean to get your panties in a bunch.

                  jeez dude calm down, my 'pissy' attitude was in response to the 'pissy' sounding comment from jamaican steve.
                  personally i don't mind the advertising, artists buy cars and go to the movies too, and the art in the ads is often designed by jux-esque artist anyway.

                  and for anyone else who reads this... so what if I'm a bit "pissy" my once favorite magazine is sliding down a slippery slope. :(

                    Personally I'm not bugged by the transition. They are generating more cash and in turn promoting more artists. I've seen a lot of deserving peeps get major exposure lately.

                    it is kinda funny tho, having pro-consumerist ads juxtapozed with anti-consumerist artists...heh.

                          <I'm not laughing.>

                          I can see your point, but lowbrow has been pretty mainstream now for several years. Robert William's original vision has been long gone for some time, and the mag is most def not reflecting it's "aging demographic", it's pretty much the opposite I'd say, with the focus being turned to young artists that are only peripherally connected to where it all started. I'd gather 90% of Jux readers had never even heard of Robert Williams pre G'NR! Perhaps that is the more the source of your angst?

                            Simple put.... I don't like the new look and feel of the mag. I don't dislike the artist being profiled a hate the advertising, I just really like the old look better. Enough said.
